Murray! That electrofisher you sold me is next level awesome. You should be proud of that design. It’s bad ass.

The Halltech shockers are truly the best and I have used them across Africa (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Angola, DRC, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa) amongst others.
Thanks for continued assistance!

Good Morning Murray, Candice, Sandeep and Mark,
I want to begin by thanking you for hosting Kory and I yesterday during our short-notice visit to Halltech. It was a pleasure to finally meet all of you in person.
Thank you for not only replacing the bad display board in one of the OSMOS units; but, for listening to my request to change the program to allow the increments in the volume filtered prompt to be changed from 0.5L to 0.25L. After realizing that we seem to “lose” a small amount of volume (from a fixed sample bottle) as compared to the targeted volume filtered, it made sense in terms of the ability to extract the most amount of liquid from a fixed sample, while still allowing for this “loss amount”, to be able to set a filtration amount in an increment smaller than 500ml.
For those who are copied on this email, I want to point out to all of you that after explaining the issue to Murray, he immediately asked Sandeep to modify the program and flash the program chip with the new changes. While Kory Bertrand and I waited, Sandeep was able to flash the program chip, that Kory was delivering to Guillaume Cote for ultimate delivery to the R/V Lampsilis. This will allow the researchers on board the Lampsilis to filter 2 replicates of 750ml instead of the more restrictive 500ml. This will reduce the amount of unfiltered water that will be left in the bottle, and ultimately discarded, by 500ml. (Note: This benchtop application is truly a new use for the OSMOS and there was no way for Halltech to have foreseen this issue in advance.). We were able to get Kory on his way to Quebec City with the updated unit. This represents a huge victory for the GEN-FISH project and it’s first interaction with the Lampsilis and RQM.
Today, I will be working with Sandeep, who will be sending me the program and walking me through the steps to “flash update” our 3rd unit from my home, without the need for returning it back to Halltech.
I, therefore, have nothing but praise and the utmost respect for Murray Hall and his team. Although my involvement with this company is only a few months long, I can see that our relationship with Halltech has already and will continue to pay huge dividends well into the future.
Thanks again!

Over the past 15 years, I’ve used a variety of backpack Electrofishers, made by several other companies. Of them all, the Halltech HT-2000 is the most pleasant to use. It is quiet, lightweight, comfortable, and has exactly the electronic controls that you want, without a lot of needless extra bells and whistles. It has several innovative design features, like the rugged waterproof casing, high-on-your-back design (allowing you to go into deeper water), crutch-style anode, and tilt on-off switch. I was a little concerned when I first saw how small and lightweight the lithium ion batteries were, thinking that they wouldn’t last very long on a charge. I was wrong! We’ve been using the HT-2000 at high voltage to sample fishes in low-conductivity coastal plain streams, and the batteries last just as long if not longer than the “green ones” I was accustomed to. I had one technical issue with one of the units I bought, but Mark responded quickly to fix the problem and get me back in business. All in all, I’d recommend Halltech to anyone looking for an affordable, hardworking, user-friendly electrofisher.

Thanks Murray,
I have talked to a few people about the HT2000 and I used them up in Grand Canyon and was super impressed with everything about the units. Seems like you guys have the system figured out really well.

Dear Halltech,
I wanted to take a moment and let you know we are very pleased with the backpack electrofishing unit we purchased this past year. In addition to using the electrofisher in a stream environment, we also use it to anesthetize striped bass broodstock prior to spawning procedure and American shad prior to hormone implant. The simplicity of the design and the fact Halltech customized our electrodes for electro-anesthesia contributed to a successful spawning season. Thanks for making an effective and easy to use device!

On behalf of South Nation Conservation I would like to commend Halltech Aquatic Research Inc. and the service department for their quality work and professionalism while assisting us with our HT2000 Mark IV backpack fishing unit. The service was completed quickly and smoothly to allow us return and complete our fieldwork in a timely fashion. We also thank you for the donation of the Velcro safety straps to update the safety features of our backpack unit.
In addition we greatly appreciate Halltech loaning South Nation Conservation the new HT2000 Mark V unit for the purpose of our annual Watershed Tour Day during the service period. There were many questions answered and misconceptions cleared regarding the practicality and safety of electrofishing, as well as, inquiries about the new Mark V unit.
Again, it was a pleasure doing business with Halltech.
Thank You
Sincerely,
Josh Mansell
Here are some aspects I like about the HT2000: The backpacker shocker frame is setup to ride higher on your back, so you can shocker deeper pools. The battery life is amazing! The outer-shell of shocker is a pelican case with great waterproofing. The unit is lighter than other shockers. Halltech’s service department is A+, always working hard to make sure our shocking equipment never goes down keeping us from completing our surveys.
Here are some of my testimonials from previous emails:
“Yeah, we have had great success shocking American eels with the HT2000 backpack shocker. We’ve shocked 100’s of eels in a few streams within the Hudson River watershed. Sometimes it looks like a horror film, watching all the eels squirm out of the substrate. Trust me, measuring all those eels is not fun.”
“Our HT2000 backpack shocker was on a fish survey recently where it was put into heavy use. We sampled 9 sites (1000 second runs) for a total of 9000 seconds on ONE battery. What a Work Horse!!!”

La machine a très bien fonctionné, la batterie garde sa charge durant toute une journée de travail, bravo. Nous avons travaillé avec à toutes les températures (chaud et même neige).
The machine very well worked, the battery keeps his load during all day in the field… BRAVO!!. We worked in all the temperatures (hot and even snow)!

Mr. Hall,
We received our Halltech backpack electrofisher earlier this year. We have been more than pleased. The ease of use, comfort, and rugged construction at an affordable price are great. It has worked well in high and low conductivity water. I have spread the word around the office and our other crews want to try it out also. Thanks again for the great service.

We bought our first HT-2000 in 2013, and since then I’ve used it with probably a couple hundred students, almost all of who have been first-time users or helpers. The backpack unit has never missed a beat, and I’ve never had to swap out batteries during a three-hour lab. Working with students, I’ve appreciated the fact that the safety features are easy to understand and use. The only after-the-sale contact I’ve needed to have with Halltech was to get an anode pole switch replaced (normal wear-and-tear issue). The service department took care of it as quickly as anyone could ask.

We’re still loving our HT2000 (bought in 2016) and have not had a single issue. Never even managed to run a battery flat!!!
